At Blackhill Woods Retreat we create all our Events & Retreats around ‘Normal Yogi’s’. 
Down to earth souls that want to share, practice, learn and most of all reconnect to ourselves and the greater community of like minded people around us. 
We start our Yoga & Meditation journeys to find a greater sense of wellbeing in our physical bodies but probably also in our mental and spiritual selves too. We sign up to events to experience something new, take a well earned break from our busy lives or to simply delve deeper into our true selves in safe supported surroundings. At Blackhill Woods we structure our Events around meeting all those wants and desires and more. We aim to tick the boxes you forgot to include and give you the best opportunity to make the most out your valuable time and energy.

Residential Yoga Retreats

We have a full calendar of Residential Weekend Yoga Retreats to choose from taking their main influence from nature’s seasons and specific times of year. We are proud to deliver a totally unique Yoga Retreat experience which focuses on you, your abilities and what you want from your weekend. Many of our Yogi’s have been total beginners unsure of what to expect only to be thrilled with themselves, having also let go, relaxed and totally switched off over the weekend. 
We are proud to also serve a fully vegan menu for the entire weekend with much of our produce coming directly from our garden. Food for the soul in more ways than one!

Well Being & Yoga Events

Every month there is something different going on in Blackhill Woods Retreat. Our events are a chance to discover yourself and the seasons of life as we are forever growing and evolving. We have regular Yin Yoga Mornings usually the first Sunday of the month. These half day retreats have grown over the last several years to be a place of release, restoration and grounding. A sumptuous gentle healing of Yin & Restorative Yoga with Meditation, chanting, breathing, woodland walking and all followed by a wholesome Vegan lunch. What more could you ask for! Well we also do full day retreats throughout the year. These combine the complimentary styles of Flow Yoga in the mornings followed by lunch and Yin Yoga in the afternoons. A real balanced day of Yin and Yang.
Blackhill Woods Retreat is a place to tune into the abundance of our beautiful Earth. Each year we celebrate the Earth’s cycles and traditional Celtic festivals by marking the Equinoxes, Solstices and other significant dates. We meet and breathe, practice Yoga and Meditation together in the Yoga Grove set in the middle of the woodland and concluding the occasion with Sacred Cacao Ceremony & Cake!
At Blackhill Woods Retreat we also have many visiting teachers that add to the blend of Yoga and other activities through Residential Retreats and Workshops. We promote a natural way to find wellbeing so keep an eye out for our Vegan Cooking Days, Mindfulness Courses, Flower Workshops, Artists Retreats and much more. We personally host all of the retreats ensuring our exacting high standards for good food, beautiful, clean, spacious setting and a warm homely welcome.

It is our intention to nourish your body, mind and soul through yoga, meditation, time in nature, healthy living, open fires and the best of locally sourced produced and home vegan cooking. We have a fully stocked kitchen garden filled with seasonal organic herbs, fruits & vegetables that are the basis of all our cuisine.

The Setting – Nestled in 5 acres of ancient native woodland, the sumptuous Blackhill Woods Retreat in the Heritage Town of Abbeyleix, Co. Laois, Ireland.

The Accommodation – Beautifully designed Georgian style house with super cosy beds and luxury shared bedrooms

Friday Evening

  • Check in anytime after 4pm. Welcome afternoon tea and homemade scones.
  • 7pm Gentle Yoga & Meditation with Simon followed by Supper and relaxation.


  •  8.00 Meet for Morning Meditation with Simon.
  •  8.30 Fresh healthy Vegan Breakfast.
  •  11.00-12.30 Energising Flow Yoga Practice with Eilish.

You time to relax and unwind.

  •  13.00 Warm delicious Vegan Lunch.
  •  14.30 Optional Light hike on the unique and biodiverse boardwalks of the Abbeyleix Bog Project or  just strolling the ancient woodland of Blackhill or free time to yourself to nap, read, take a massage or energy session (with Joan our on site Massage therapist), journal, reflect, or relax. Introverts and extroverts equally welcome.
  •  16.30 Afternoon tea by the fire.
  •  18.00 Evening Deeply Relaxing Yin Yoga & Meditation with Eilish.
  •  20.00 Dinner – Vegan Roast made with seasonal and local veggies, followed by Dessert and Tea/Coffee.

Time for an early night or to be a bookworm or a social butterfly! We encourage you to honour yourself and self direct the entire flow of your weekend.

Your Hosts – Simon Rogers and Eilish Fitzpatrick, long established yoga teachers who skillfully blend Yin and Yang styles to suit all levels of abilities, our aim is to provide a perfect balance of work, rest and play. We have been holding a variety of classes, workshops and day retreats at Blackhill Woods for a number of years. We are delighted with the results and have created a haven for peace, comfort and tranquility.
